Patients who suffer from an inflammatory bowel disease may experience some form of abdominal discomfort and cramping after meals. These symptoms may be reduced in inflammatory bowel disease sufferers who are following a specific diet to reduce these symptoms.

Instead of eating three large meals a day, eating smaller meals through the day may help. If people either eliminate or reduce their consumption of greasy or fried foods then this can also improve their symptoms. It is recommended for inflammatory bowel disease sufferers that the following foods be best avoided:

· Fried foods
· Butter and margarine
· All pork products
· Cream sauces
· Caffeine beverages
· Alcohol
· Sorbitol - artificial sweetener
· Cabbage
· Vegetables

Another important dietary change would be to limit milk consumption and milk products if the person is lactose intolerant.
